What's New in HYAS Protect!

HYAS Protect Policy Management

The “Protect Policy Management” page has been fully redesigned to replace the legacy Categories/Rulesets view. This new interface is built on our next-generation HYAS framework and delivers a more intuitive, scalable, and user-friendly policy management experience.

Key Enhancements Include:

  • Three-Panel Layout
A new tri-paneled design organizes your workflow:

    1. Policy Table (left) for easy browsing

    2. Policy Details (center) for quick edits and visibility

    3. Content Configuration (right) for managing Categories, Rules, and Threats.

  • Cleaner, Modern Look and Feel
Fonts, buttons, and yellow accents have been updated as part of the new HYAS style guide, emphasizing clarity and reducing visual noise. Thoughtful use of white space improves focus on relevant content.

  • Built for the Future
This new UI framework enables faster iteration and upcoming enhancements, such as custom group creation.

This release improves the day-to-day workflow for administrators and lays the groundwork for more powerful policy control in the months ahead.

New Policy Layering Capabilities

Building on the foundation of the new HYAS Protect Policy Management experience, you can now create and manage multiple protection policies, each tailored to specific network assets. This powerful enhancement introduces a layered execution model, giving you more flexibility, clarity, and control over how protection is applied across your environment.

With this release, policies can be assigned to Source Networks, enabling targeted configurations for different environments such as offices, data centers, or remote locations. Each policy is evaluated in order of priority, and only the first applicable policy is enforced—making policy behavior both predictable and easy to manage. A built-in Default Policy ensures full coverage for any traffic not matched by a specific policy.

Benefits:

  • Flexible Policy Assignment
Assign individual policies to Source Networks to tailor protection to specific environments.

  • Predictable Enforcement Logic
Policies execute in order—only the first matching policy is applied, simplifying decision-making.

  • Built-In Fallback Coverage
An always-enabled Default Policy ensures all DNS traffic is governed, even when no custom policy applies.

Policy Application by Source Network

As part of the enhanced HYAS Protect Policy Management experience, administrators can now assign protection policies to specific source networks. This new capability allows for more precise control over how DNS protection is applied across different parts of your environment.

Benefits:

  • Network-Aware Protection
Apply different policies to different parts of your infrastructure—such as remote offices, guest Wi-Fi, or data center environments—to ensure each network gets the protection it needs without a one-size-fits-all approach.

  • Better Risk Segmentation
Assign stricter controls to high-risk networks and more permissive settings to trusted internal ones. This improves your security posture while maintaining operational flexibility.

  • Operational Clarity
Knowing exactly which policy applies to which network reduces complexity, makes it easier to troubleshoot issues, and gives teams greater confidence in their configurations.

Reimagined MSSP Policy Inheritance

HYAS Protect has modernized the MSSP policy inheritance system to align with the new Policy Management experience, offering a more scalable and predictable way to enforce consistent policies across managed organizations.

Key Enhancements Include:

  • Policy Creation Controls
MSSPs can now decide—globally or per org—whether client organizations are allowed to create their own protection policies.

  • Flexible List Management
MSSPs can still push lists to clients, and clients can independently manage their own lists (with override capability).

Benefits:

  • More Control, Less Confusion – MSSPs can confidently manage default policy enforcement without navigating complex UI toggles or inconsistent behavior.

  • Improved Delegation – Decide which client orgs can extend their policies—and which cannot.

  • Built for Growth – Designed to scale with MSSPs managing dozens or hundreds of organizations, and ready to support future feature expansion.

Modernized Menu Bar

We’ve redesigned the left-side menu bar to make it more intuitive and visually engaging. The items have been reordered based on their usage frequency to better align with client workflows, and the menu bar itself now features a bold red color.

Benefits:

  • Smarter Navigation: Menu items are now arranged by usefulness, so clients can find what they need more quickly.

  • Visual Refresh: The new red menu bar creates a more engaging and polished interface.

  • Improved Workflow Efficiency: Fewer clicks and less searching mean clients get work done faster.

90-Day Agent Inactivity Cleanup

To improve visibility and reduce management overhead, HYAS Protect now automatically removes agents from the Protect Agent > Manage table after 90 consecutive days of inactivity.

Benefits:

  • Cleaner Management View
Automatically filters out stale agents so administrators can focus on what matters—currently active endpoints.

  • Improved Accuracy
Ensures the Protect Agent table reflects the real-time status of your deployment.

  • Retroactive Cleanup
Applies immediately to any agents already inactive for 90+ days at the time of release.

No action is needed—cleanup will run automatically as part of your regular HYAS Protect environment.

EntraID Depreciation

With the release of the new policy layering functionality, HYAS Protect no longer supports the EntraID integration. The EntraID option has been removed from Organization Settings, and all associated configuration capabilities have been disabled. HYAS will continue to evaluate the need to reintroduce the integration in a later release.

Improved Split-Horizon Instructions

The Local Network Test section in the HYAS Protect Agent UI has been updated with clearer language to better describe its purpose and functionality, especially for environments using split-horizon DNS.

Benefits:

  • Improved Clarity: New UI text clearly explains what the test does and how it impacts settings based on network location.

  • Better Admin Experience: Helps administrators understand and configure split-horizon DNS tests with greater confidence.

  • Supports Accurate Policy Application: Ensures settings are correctly applied depending on whether a device is on a local or external network.

Simplified Agent Versioning Language

The Actions menu in the Protect Agent UI has been updated to simplify the user experience and improve clarity.

  • Removed Outdated Version Labels: Legacy version tags (e.g., (v2.2.6+)) have been removed from action items in both single and multi-agent dropdowns.

  • New Tooltip for Version-Specific Action: A helpful tooltip now appears next to “Disable Agent for 15m,” clearly indicating the required Agent version (v2.2.11+).

Benefits:

  • Improved Usability: A cleaner Actions menu makes it easier for administrators to quickly find and execute commands without being distracted by version clutter.

  • Reduced Confusion: By removing outdated version references and consolidating key requirements into a single, well-placed tooltip, users can confidently understand which actions are supported by their agents.

  • More Intuitive Interface: These changes align with modern UI expectations, enhancing overall user satisfaction and reducing the learning curve for new users.

Updated Support Icon Behavior for Non-HYAS Clients

HYAS Protect now displays a tailored support message for users in organizations managed by a HYAS MSSP. When a user from a child organization (under an MSSP account) clicks the support icon, instead of initiating contact with HYAS, they are directed to their MSSP.

Benefits:

  • Clear Support Routing: MSSP-managed clients are prompted to contact their MSSP directly, avoiding incorrect escalation.

  • Streamlined User Experience: Ensures users receive the most appropriate and timely assistance.
