Protect Anycast Support

HYAS Protect now leverages Anycast DNS to improve query performance, resiliency, and availability. This enhancement introduces two new Anycast resolver IPs:

• 68.220.41.83

• 68.220.41.134

What is Anycast?
Anycast is a network routing method where the same IP address is advertised from multiple geographically distributed servers. DNS queries sent to an Anycast IP are automatically routed to the nearest, fastest, or healthiest server based on network topology and conditions. This improves speed, reduces latency, and increases overall reliability through built-in failover and redundancy.

What does this mean for clients?

• Automatic Improvements: HYAS Protect agents will automatically use the new Anycast IPs. No configuration or software updates are needed—performance and reliability will improve immediately and transparently.

HYAS Protect Agents will start using Anycast shortly after the release, with updates rolling out gradually over the next couple of days. This helps us ensure everything runs smoothly and allows us to quickly handle any issues—without disrupting your service.

• No Disruption: Existing resolver IPs still work exactly as before. Clients with them configured do not need to change anything.

• Optional Updates for Resolver Deployments: Clients using resolver-based deployments (e.g., via firewall rules or DNS-forwarding setups, etc) can optionally switch to the Anycast IPs to benefit from geographic routing, load balancing, and failover. This is not required but recommended for those seeking optimal performance and resilience.

Benefits:

• Faster DNS Resolution: Queries are routed to the nearest resolver, minimizing latency.

• Improved Reliability: Built-in failover ensures continued service even if one resolver node becomes unavailable.

• Seamless Adoption: HYAS Protect agents automatically adopt Anycast—no client effort required.

• Optional Flexibility: Existing dedicated resolvers remain supported; clients can migrate to Anycast at their convenience.

  

Agent Configuration Safeguards

HYAS Protect now includes a range of input validation and dependency checks across key agent configuration features to prevent common misconfigurations and ensure expected behavior.

Enhancements Include:

• Disable on Local Network:

  • Now requires an active Split-Horizon DNS configuration before enabling.

  • Blocks save if test configuration is missing or incomplete.

• Local Resolution Settings:

  • Combines Local Domains and Local Resolvers into one clear section.

  • Domains must include a valid second-level and top-level domain or subdomain (e.g., example.com).

  • Resolvers must be valid IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.

  • Both fields are required for local resolution to be saved.

• Split-Horizon DNS Validation:

  • Test Query must be a domain or FQDN.

  • Test Value must be a valid IPv4 address.

Benefits:

• Prevents Silent Failures: Blocks incomplete or invalid configurations at save time.

• Clear Guidance: Modal popups provide helpful feedback when validation fails.

• Consistent Agent Behavior: Ensures features like local resolution and network bypass only activate when fully supported.

Pivot Into Logs from Manage Agent

You can now click on a device name or username in the Manage Agent page to instantly view related logs in the Log View. The selected identifier is automatically applied as a filter, making it easier to investigate specific agent activity.

• Faster Troubleshooting: Jump directly to logs associated with a specific agent or user to diagnose issues quickly.

• Seamless Navigation: Eliminates the need to manually re-enter filters or switch contexts between pages.

• Context-Aware Filtering: Log View opens with the exact device or username already applied, improving investigation accuracy.
